Powell police cracking down on illegal turners at busy intersection
Evidently, Powell travelers have been struggling to read street signs lately because the police department has announced an increase in enforcement at one popular intersection.
Left turns at the intersection of Olentangy and Liberty Streets is prohibited between 4pm- 7pm weekdays in all four directions but many drivers are disregarding that stipulations.
Powell studied the intersection over several days in August and discovered that more than 150 cars made illegal left turns during prohibited hours.
Left turns lead to more congestion during rush hour and police want to curb the problem before bottlenecks turn to accidents.
Violators will be slapped with a $135 ticket and the Powell Deputy Chief Steven Hrytzik told 10TV that they will not be writing warnings.
Officials also told 10TV that this is one more extension of the “Keep Powell Moving” initiative.
