Local org goes above, beyond for freezing homeless + ways you can help
As unbearable temperatures continue to whip through the capital city, one local organization is going above and beyond to help bring people out of the cold.
Maryhaven, a nonprofit that’s been helping people who struggle with addition, mental health, and homelessness restore their lives since 1953, travels inside Columbus homeless camps to drop off supplies and invite folks into warmth.
10TV caught up with Thomas Adams, the outreach coordinator at Maryhaven, during one of these pursuits yesterday before the polar vortex.
Than ran into one person who turned down Adams offer, saying he had a propane tank, blankets, and a friend’s kerosene heater to keep him warm through Tuesday’s winter blast. He added that the last time he left the homeless camp to stay in a shelter, someone stole his belongings.
To help Maryhaven on their mission to help warm the homeless, donate food or money to your local panties.
