Could a photo be a felony?

If you get caught up in excitement about voting in this election, you probably shouldn’t get so excited you post a selfie with your ballot or your ballot at all.

It’s a felony.

Voters have been warned that posting a photo of a ballot is illegal to show how you voted. Voters also cannot show off their completed ballot while in the polling station (no matter how excited). This law was written well before the dawn of the social media takeover and one lawmaker is attempting to change it. “The idea behind it was to keep people from selling their votes,” said Rep. Mike Duffey, the Dispatch reported. “I think it’s a violation of free speech.” His goal is to challenge that law that he belives is punishing those who may be guilty of over sharing on Facebook, but not a felony.
