Columbus smells? Has the EPA figured it out?
UPDATE: The smell people have been complaining about has been somewhat of a mystery, but the EPA thinks it might have the problem solved. The Glatfelter paper plant in Chillicothe is probably the cause because they were doing maintenance on one of their ventilation systems and while the work was done, the backup vents failed. There aren’t any health concerns involved with the plant, just bad smells.
The smell in south and east Columbus is getting bad enough that residents are not only taking to social media to complain, but also making calls. Police, fire stations and other officials have all gotten calls about an odor. The city has checked out sewage and the sewer system to see if something is wrong but haven’t found anything.
