Columbus is breaking a national trend, and not in a good way. Nationwide, the homeless rate has been decreasing, but not in Columbus. Since 2010 the rate has gone down by about 15 percent, but in Columbus and the surrounding area it’s gone up by 7.6 percent, the Dispatch reported. More families are hitting shelters and the length of time spent there has gone down, without a transition to places somewhere else.
