Worth The Drive: Make your trip to Findlay, OH sweet with Dietsch Brothers chocolate

You may know Findlay, OH because it is home to the Marathon Petroleum headquarters, or you may have heard it been referred to as “Flag City U.S.A.” But, everyone knows Dietsch Brothers is what really put the small city on the map.

For over 80 years, people have been traveling to Northwest Ohio from far and near just to get a taste of the famed candies and ice cream at Dietsch.

Upon arriving at either location of the quaint, family-owned shop, you’ll be greeted warmly by the chocolatiers and scoop scientists behind the counter. The smell of baking waffle cones and melting milk chocolate will remind you that you must make a choice: ice cream or candy?

Should you choose the ice cream route, there are dozens of homemade hard-dip flavors to pick from including Buckeye, Chocolate Pretzel Caramel Swirl, Mackinac Island Fudge, Maple Nut, and many more. You can also find specialty treats like pies, cakes, and ice cream sandwiches.

Dietsch has been in the ice cream game long enough to know nothing pairs better with a couple scoops of sweet cream than a glass of ice cold water. Be sure to grab some from the tap at the end of the counter before finding a booth to enjoy your treat.

If you choose the candy route, you’ll be entering into a world of pure imagination. Ganache, peanut brittle, candy buckeyes, specialty popcorn, truffles, and more adorn the shelves and surfaces of the Dietsch candy shop. You can’t make a wrong choice (unless you leave empty handed), but it would be a mistake to miss out on two specific goodies: caramels and chocolate-covered pretzels.

Dietsch’s individually-wrapped caramel chews are what sweet tooths crave and what orthodontists fear. They’re soft, buttery, and totally decadent. I bet you can’t eat just one.

The pretzels are by far Dietsch’s most popular offering year after year.

The candy masters start by personally picking up pretzels at a nearby factory to guarantee maximum freshness. Then, the lightly-salted pretzels are engulfed by sweet, melty chocolate—sweet and smooth on the outside, salty and crunchy on the inside.

Customers can select from either milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white frosted, or a combination of them all!

No matter if you choose the path of ice cream or candy on your sweet adventure to Dietsch Brothers in Findlay, Ohio, you will not be led astray. In fact, you’d probably make Edward Dietsch and his brothers Chris and Don, who opened the shop so long ago, pretty proud if you left the shop with a cone in one hand and a caramel in the other.
