There’s a new transit map in town

B-IStBxCQAAHsxZTransit Columbus wanted a map that showed all the alternate transportation offerings for Columbus. So they decided to hold a contest and see who could come up with the best design. And after several months, and LOTS of entries for the #ReMapColumbus contest, a winner has been announced! Aaron Kidwell’s design, which shows routes for services like the bus, bikes, Car2Go, CoGo stops, etc., took first place. Mapmaker, mapmaker, make me a map

Mapmaker, mapmaker, make me a map … wait, that’s not how the song goes. But that’s the tune Tranist Columbus is singing. The local advocacy group is sponsoring a contest for artists and designers to create a new transit map for Columbus. The maps must combine COTA lines with others, like CoGo Bike Share and Car2Go. Four finalists have been chosen and a poll is up on their website to determine the winner, who’ll get a $2,000 prize. (deb)

  • Map No. 1 focuses on Columbus’ network of bike-friendly roads, bike lanes, and shared-use paths along
  • Map No. 2 focuses on COTA bus lines, plus CoGo stations and Car2Go’s home network boundaries
  • Map No. 3 focuses on COTA’s local, express, and cross-town lines and the Cbus Downtown circulator, CoGo, Car2Go, and Uber
  • Map No. 4 uses a customized Google map that integrates data from Car2Go and CoGo and suggests fastest route or “urban experience” routes

Map your Columbus, with your alternative transportation

Columbus is different for everyone, and Transit Columbus wants to know what yours is. A contest beginning Nov. 1 is calling for entries to create maps of the city with their alternative transportation. The competition is trying to create a map that will change how many people see the city both inside and out. Maps will be accepted up until Dec. 31, and in January the public will vote on which they think is best. COTA Bus Routes, CABS Bus Routes, CBUS, CoGo Stations, Car2Go Service Area, Bikeways/Trails, Intercity Buses and car services are all part of the grand scheme of the map, but what contestants include is up to them. The winning team will win $2,000.
