Details for the re-opening

In a much-anticipated press briefing today, Gov. Mike DeWine outlined the schedule and guidelines for the re-opening of bars, restaurants and other service businesses. If Mother Nature cooperates, you may be sitting outside for Happy Hour beginning as early as next week.

Friday, May 15

  • Outdoor seating bars/restaurants
  • Personal Services

Thursday, May 21

• Indoor seating bars/restaurants

Bar/Restaurant Guidelines

  • Tables must be 6 feet apart or physical barriers
  • Parties up to 10 individuals
  • Waiting areas may be outside or asked to be in your car
  • No self-service salad or buffet bars – they will be served
  • Most front of house employees required to wear masks
  • Bar areas may be used if they can accommodate the 6-foot rule

Ed Hastie is a local attorney specializing in representing bars, restaurants and breweries. He also sits on the Grandview Heights city council and is the part-owner of two bars: Woodland’s Backyard and Pointe Tavern in Upper Arlington. Like so many other small business owners, his establishments have been closed since March 15.

“We have always said we would open when we could legally and safely open. Due to the uniqueness of the space at Woodland’s Backyard, we plan to do so. Likely on the 15th.”

“I’m glad they’re trusting business owners to do the right thing in an industry that has been doing the right thing, said Hastie.” “This is definitely a step in the right direction.”

Personal Services Guidelines

  • Includes hair, nails, tanning, spas
  • Waiting in car until appointment is ready
  • Employees required to wear mask
  • Customer masks at discretion of management
