Adopt, don’t shop: Find your new best friend at these cat adoption centers
Have you been waiting for the perfect opportunity to bring a furry ball of joy into your life? Well, June is the right time for you to finally bring home a feline friend.
June is recognized as Adopt-A-Cat month by American Humane due to the large number of kittens born during June. This, in turn, causes an influx of kitties to your local shelters.
So, if you’re feeling lonely and philanthropic at the same time, check out the list below of five cat adoption centers worth rescuing from around Columbus.
Colony Cats Adoption Center – 2740 Festival Ln., Dublin
Walking into Colony Cats Adoption Center in Dublin is like walking into an overcrowded oasis for cats. Seeing each cat or kitten roam so freely had a calming effect when I adopted from this location in May. Adoption fees run anywhere from $25 to $100. You can find a list of adoptable cats here.
Columbus Humane – 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct., Hilliard
Columbus Humane does more than just offer one of the most thorough adoption processes around town. On top of caring for over 250 pets per day, Columbus Humane looks into animal cruelty and abuse going on within the city. You can schedule a session to meet with a counselor to see if you’re a good fit for any of these cats.
Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center – 62 Village Pointe Dr., Powell
If you peer through the Cozy Cat Cottage Facebook page, you’ll see an endless stream of photos featuring parents with their newly-adopted cats. That’s because Cozy Cat Cottage is very serious about the homes that their fluff balls go to. After completing an application and in-person interview, Cozy Cat Cottage will then decide if you’re a fitting parent. The adoption fees are $100 for kittens under 13 weeks, $90 for kittens over 13 weeks, and $50 for cats over one-years old. To see the list of cats available for adoption, click here.

Pets Without Parents – 629 Oakland Park Ave.
If you ask someone in Columbus for a suggestion on pet adoption centers, Pets Without Parents seems to be one of the most reoccurring answers. The organization shows love for all sorts of pets without a companion. Pets Without Parents also does a very thorough process of contacting your landlord and veterinarian to see if you’re a suitable fit for adoption. The adoption fees are $100 for kittens under six months, $75 for cats aged six months to one year, and $50 for cats older than a year. You can see a list of adoptable pets here.
Cat Welfare Association – 741 Wetmore Rd.
It may not have as big of a selection as the other four adoption centers listed above, but Cat Welfare Association definitely takes care of some lovely cats. The adoption fee is regularly $20. The fee is $10 for senior cats and kitties with special needs. The fees will still cover the cost of vaccinations, de-worming, feline leukemia testing, FIV testing, microchipping, and spaying or neutering. You can check out what cats they have available here.
