Jon Rahm wins Memorial Tournament
Spaniard Jon Rahm has risen to the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings on the strength of his victory at this year’s Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
His five-shot win over runner-up Ryan Palmer was his fourth on the PGA Tour.
The 25-year-old said his performance in Saturday’s third round was one of the best of his life. He followed that four-under 68 with a three-over 75 on Sunday, but that was impressive on a day when only five golfers managed to go under par.

Rahm has now joined Seve Ballesteros as the only Spaniard to reach No. 1. Rather than celebrate that milestone victory with the traditional handshake, he fist bumped tournament founder Jack Nicklaus following the conclusion of his day.
Nicklaus had earlier told CBS television that he and his wife Barbara tested positive for COVID-19 in March, but have since recovered.
The 80-year-old said he had a sore throat and cough, while his wife—also 80 years old—remained asymptomatic.
