Walk it off, New Albany
If you were anywhere near New Albany this morning, you might have been greeted by a sight that usually doesn’t happen until 3PM at the Starbucks:* a small horde of students walking the streets. More than 1,200 students walked (or carpooled) to schools in the New Albany-Plain Local School District today after Issue 3 failed in November and the district was forced to make a $7.5 million budget cut — with busing hit the hardest.
Over 50 teachers and ten bus drivers lost their jobs as a result of the budget cut. But it’s the cut to the busing system that’s the biggest upset, as many of the districts’ routes were eliminated. The school has created info packets and safety tips on their website to help with the new changes. (deb)
*this is when school lets out and all the kids come to Starbucks. It’s horrifying; I know because I was trapped in line once when it happened.
