Stone Brewing Co. one step closer to Cbus

The search is getting more narrow and Columbus is still on the docket for the massive Stone Brewing Co. project. Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, said that her city had been eliminated in the race for the company and that the search would be more refined to the Northeast and Midwest. Meaning Columbus still has a fighting chance for the beer to hit the Buckeye state. The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk is reporting that their city and Columbus are the top dogs, but that the Virginia city push out Columbus because they have “better water,” according to Columbus Business First.

As soon as California-based Stone Brewing Co. announced it wanted to open a brewery farther east, midwest and east coast cities began toppling over each other in the rat race for the brewery. It’s not for the love of a nice, cool beer either (that would be all too idealistic). $60 million is why. The project would pour money into the wining city and of course, Columbus is among the cities wooing Stone Brewingbut with a slight leg up considering one of the co-founders is an Ohio native. Mayor Coleman (and Jeni’s president) recently went out to visit the brewery in California as well, according to Columbus Business First.
