Huckabee joins the race
Its only Tuesday and, already this week, three more contenders have joined the race for the White House. Yesterday, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson announced their candidacies for the Republican presidential nomination. This morning, former Arkansas Governor (and 2008 candidate) Mike Huckabee joined the contest.
Huckabee made his announcement in Hope, Arkansas…his hometown and the hometown of former President Bill Clinton. In his previous White House bid, Huckabee won the Iowa caucuses and finished second in the overall delegate count to eventual nominee John McCain. From his announcement on Tuesday:

Monday brings the entry of two more candidates for the Republican presidential nomination. Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina announced her candidacy in an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America. Fiorina has never held elective office, but was the GOP’s 2010 U.S. Senate nominee in California…eventually losing that race to incumbent Barbara Boxer.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson also chose Monday to announce his campaign for the White House. Carson came to the public’s attention after he gave remarks critical of President Obama at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. He announced his candidacy this morning in Detroit.
“I’m Ben Carson and I’m a candidate for president of the United States.” Later…”I’m not even asking people to vote for me. I’m just asking people to listen. This brings the total of announced GOP candidates to five including Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. Many others, including Ohio Governor John Kasich, are considering the race. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is expected to announce his candidacy on Tuesday. (jj)
