Judges at the Ohio State Fair have announced winners of the 2015 Homebrew Competition. This was the 20th year for the contest. 528 beverages in all were in the running including beers, meads and ciders. In judging the entrants, the panel of experts considered the following:
- aroma
- appearance
- flavor
- mouthfeel
- overall impression
Dover, Ohio’s Matthew Shurtz claimed the Best of Show award for his Robust Porter with toasted almond and coconut. (Shurtz says that it tastes similar to Almond Joy candy.)
Westerville’s Dan George claimed runner-up distinction with his German Pilsner.
