D’Angelo Russell drafted by the Lakers
“I know Ohio State is where I want to be.”
– D’Angelo Russell, committing to Ohio State in 2013
Hopefully he feels the same way about Los Angeles.
Russell was taken with the 2nd overall NBA draft pick last night by the L.A. Lakers. He becomes just the sixth OSU freshman taken in the draft in nearly 50 years. His early selection came as a surprise to Laker fans, many of whom let out an audible gasp as they watched the event from the team’s facility. They weren’t the only ones surprised. Russell says that the news came as a shock to him as well.
Lakers coach Byron Scott says that the OSU standout reminds him of team great Magic Johnson. And Magic clearly approves of the pick.
Laker Nation: Congrats to Mitch Kupchak, Jim and Jeannie Buss on drafting, who I think is a future superstar in D'Angelo Russell!

Kobe and Russell. That’s going to be fun to watch! (jj)
