Gallicchio’s Perfect Pies, a Monthly Review: OH Pizza & Brew
Born and raised in Columbus, Mike Gallicchio is first and foremost an entrepreneur. You might be familiar with some of his work. He’s owner of the Columbus Food Truck Festival, Columbus Wine Festival, and Columbus Fiery Foods Festival, as well as a food truck fabrication company, Titan Trucks. His father (Pops) is the real pizza connoisseur of Columbus—He owned several Domino’s Pizza franchises. Once he was old enough, though, Gallicchio spent many a night makin’ pies and traveling from store to store proofing dough and slapping sauce. While he’s since eked out a living in a different part of Columbus’ cuisine scene, Gallicchio’s love for all things pizza has remained, and searching out perfect pies is something he’s passionate about. Every month, you can count on Gallicchio to share one of his favorite pizza places. Will it be one of your own favorites, or a new place to try?

I’m always on the hunt for a good NY-style pizza here in the city of the square-cut pie. My wife told me about this hidden gem of a pizza place, OH Pizza & Brew, that was located right in downtown Columbus—and being limited on good NY slice options here in Cbus, we decided to check it out
This first experience with OH Pizza & Brew was around seven years ago at their first downtown Columbus location on the corner of North 3rd and Spring streets. OH Pizza & Brew has since expanded to multiple locations. The place was tucked away in the corner of, for lack of a better term, a dilapidated building that was under construction. What I assumed would be a daunting and scary dining experience turned into a bonafide great pizza moment.
First and foremost, OH Pizza & Brew has really good pizza. The crust is flavorful with a garlic and butter taste, and the toppings are always fresh. OH Pizza & Brew has a very large and extensive menu with a plethora of specialty pizzas. Being a pizza traditionalist, I prefer their Founders Pizza, which features pepperoni, sausage, wild mushrooms, and mozzarella, and of course my NY-slice go-to, a straight up pepperoni and banana pepper pizza, which is always a home run! One big plus with OH Pizza & Brew is their 18-inch sized pie, which really comes in handy for our 14-year-old son who likes to eat A LOT!
On a side note, I know Luke, the owner of OH Pizza & Brew, and he’s a great guy. A while back I had a semi bad experience on a Friday night at their Hilliard location. My order took a very long time: You know how it is on a busy Pizza Friday night (we call this the Friday night pizza blues). So I ended up leaving with a sour taste in my mouth and Luke, who has never met me and doesn’t know me, contacted me on Facebook and offered to personally deliver fresh pizzas to our home residence. I have to say I give the guy a lot of respect for that, and I will never forget it.
Great Pizza, Subs and Wings: You will love OH Pizza & Brew.
