Event Details

This body of work is a culmination of Rachael Strittmatter’s undergraduate education completed at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY in 2020. Over a year after the pandemic brought the world to a stand-still, Rachael is proud, excited, and more than ready to share her work in her very first solo exhibition. Her work quietly reveals extraordinary moments in the seemingly mundane aspects of daily life. By exposing this impermanence through an impermanent material, glass, it is ultimately a contemplation on being present.
Everything in life is impermanent and always changing. Instead of denying this impermanence, I work alongside it and embrace it within my art practice. Drawing from personal experiences, I am interested in this transience in relation to notions of memory and everyday life. My current work thinks through questions about transformation and presence through various projects that depend upon the materiality of the glass, the glass-working process, and glass-working phenomena. I want to know how to capture a fleeting moment. By utilizing glass and its inherent material characteristics, I create new methods to document and expose the impermanence of life.
