UPDATE: While rumors surfaced Wednesday that Stone Brewing had been taken to Richmond for their new brewery, officials have now confirmed. “Obviously, we think Columbus would have been a better location,” Steve Schoeny, the city’s director of economic development said, “but Richmond is a fantastic place.” Despite the city’s attempts, it just didn’t pan out even with members from Jeni’s and the mayor himself heading out to California to woo the brewers. It’s looking like Columbus didn’t quite make the cut for the brewery. The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that sources have told the paper that Richmond has won the race for the eastern installment of the California brewery. Since the announcement concerning the brewery’s search for another location, cities have scrambled to put together a wining pitch, and the finalists were down to Richmond, Columbus, and Norfolk. It’s expected the official announcement will follow later this week. For the brewery in Richmond, Stone is set to receive $5 million in public grant money, the paper reported. Because of Stone’s need for mass production, the city raised the limit of barrels made per year to allow more than 100,000.

While we firmly believe that Cbus is the right place for @stonebrewingco to locate their brewery, we wish them nothing but great success in Richmond. And, since RVA is less than 8 hours away, we hope they enjoy seeing plenty of Ohio license plates in their city!
