Mold ready for departure from original Port Columbus terminal
The original terminal at Port Columbus ceased operations when the current terminal opened in 1958. Today, it once again saw people walking through its corridors. But these folks weren’t travelers, mind you. They were there to do demolition work.
Ceilings have fallen inside and mold has taken up residency throughout since the building was vacated fully seven years ago. Workers today began the process of tearing down drywall and the failing roof. Renovations are on the way with the expectation of being completed late next year. An unnamed tenant has plans for the space once all of the work is complete. Work on the building is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $250,000. The Columbus Airport Terminal Stabilization Fund has put in $50,000 with the Columbus Foundation matching that amount. Developers are expected to finish the project. (jj)
