Ohio State is reporting that the man who was pulled out of Mirror Lake last night after going into cardiac arrested has died. He has now been identified as Austin Singletary, a third-year student from the Dayton area.

The university has also released a statement saying that they will end the annual jump:

In spite of significant efforts taken to make this event a safer one, this tragedy has occurred. We must come together and acknowledge that while this is a student-led tradition that has been passed down through the years, we cannot risk another tragedy. University leadership strongly agrees that we will work with our campus community to end this annual event.

Previous: Cardiac arrest: man pulled from water during Mirror Lake jump 11/25/2015

It’s a Michigan week tradition that brings thousands of Ohio State students out of their dorms and into the water…the jump at Mirror Lake. Last night’s festivities ended with the lights and sirens of emergency vehicles.

An unidentified male was pulled out of the water just before 12:30am after going into cardiac arrest. Officials at Ohio State are asking for the public’s help in learning the identity of the man taken from the water.

As you may know, early this morning, an unidentified male was removed from Mirror Lake for a medical emergency. On-site emergency responders immediately provided medical attention and he was transported to the Wexner Medical Center for further care, where he is in critical condition. Our immediate concern remains with this young man and his loved ones. It is very important for us to identify this young man, and we ask anyone with information regarding his identity to call OSU Police at 614-292-2121. We will continue to share information as it becomes available.
