LeVeque Tower is Turning Itself into a Hotel

LeVeque Tower is Turning Itself into a Hotel

via Press Release

The most iconic star on the Columbus’ horizon is being transformed into a stunning new boutique hotel. Hotel LeVeque is expected to open in late Fall of 2016 with 149 guest rooms and suites in the historic LeVeque Tower at 50 E. Broad St. in the heart of downtown in Ohio’s capital city. An Autograph Collection property, Hotel LeVeque is part of Marriott International’s boutique collection of hotels, each of which is carefully selected for its quality, bold originality, rich character and uncommon details that embody a truly unique sense of place.

This one-of-a-kind hotel will offer unmatched levels of service and sweeping views of the city’s glittering skyline and a new ribbon of parkland that hugs the Scioto Mile riverbank. Hotel LeVeque will occupy floors five through 10 of the dramatic 47-story art deco building, with a gleaming lobby welcoming guests on the first floor and an upscale dining destination restaurant occupying the second floor mezzanine, accompanied by meeting space above. Other floors of the building will feature residential and office space.

Rosemont, Ill.-based First Hospitality Group, Inc. will own and operate Hotel LeVeque under a partnership agreement with Robert J. Meyers and Don Castro of Tower 10. First Hospitality Group has tapped respected hospitality industry veteran Geri Lombard to serve as General Manager of the hotel. Lombard brings more than 25 years of experience in hospitality management with Marriott International brands, including nearly ten years as General Manager of the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus.

“Hotel LeVeque will shine a light on Columbus’ incredible design, art and creativity, really bringing the spirit of the city to life for our guests,” said Lombard. She added that the hotel is collaborating with local fashion designers, artists and makers to introduce hotel guests to the Columbus creativity, in ways that personify the Autograph Collection brand.

“We’re looking at everything from having a local maker create a special line of soaps, lotion and amenities for our guests, to working with a Columbus fashion designer to create signature staff uniform features.”

In addition to special locally crafted features at every guest touchpoint, Hotel LeVeque is also crafting sublime guest experiences designed to immerse them in Columbus’ wildly creative culture. Special getaway packages and offerings, such as culinary tours or a fashion immersion experience, will ensure that every hotel guest has the opportunity to experience the city’s truest essence. Of course, guests will enjoy the benefits of Marriott Rewards.

Originally built in 1927 as the American Insurance Union Citadel the LeVeque Tower was architect Charles Howard Crane’s masterpiece and at the time was the tallest skyscraper tallest building between New York City and Chicago and the fifth tallest building in the world. It became known as the Lincoln LeVeque Tower, then simply the LeVeque Tower after it as purchased in 1945. Clad in unusual terra cotta relief tiles, the LeVeque Tower’s spectacular Art Deco architecture remains the city’s most recognizable feature and is among Columbus’ most photographed and revered architectural treasures. Illuminating the night skyline as a soaring tower bathed in light, its architectural beauty is being carefully preserved and highlighted in elegant design being led by of Columbus-based Schooley Caldwell architects.
