Naloxone, also known under the brand name Narcan, can reverse an opioid overdose in mere seconds – seconds which can save a life. Columbus city health officials are now suggesting that this life saving drug should be carried by average citizens – not just first responders.

This urging comes amid a raging opioid epidemic which resulted in more than 3000 Ohio deaths in 2015. 2016 and 2017’s death rates are expected to be even higher. Ohio has recently seen national attention for the opioid crisis after the Montgomery County Corner’s Office ran out of room to store the corpses of overdose victims.
