A new cocktail bar open over the weekend in Bexley, and according to its creators, it’s the city’s first.

The Lion, the name given to the first-ever concept opened by Bexley Hospitality, the group behind the bar, officially opened its doors on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. It’s located at 2511 E. Main St.

Managing partners of Bexley Hospitality Mike Davis and Matt Eshelbrenner announced the bar was in the works in June, although the name was not revealed until earlier this week. It’s a nod to the Bexley High School mascot, which is a lion.

Inspired by famous cocktail spots like New York City’s Death & Co., in addition to local bars such as Antiques on High, the Lion plans to offer both unique and classic cocktails, in a city like Bexley that is currently lacking in late-night watering holes.

“At a certain point we were like, ‘Bexley has nothing really open past 9 p.m.,’ there’s just nowhere to go if you’re out is the Short North and want to have a nightcap and finish the conversation, except back home,” Davis said in an interview earlier this summer.
