Ohio sculptor’s bright idea makes its way to Washington
The new statue of Thomas Edison for the US Capitol’s Statuary Hall will more than likely be made by an Ohio sculptor. An Ohio commission has chosen Zainesville artist Alan Cottrill to make the piece. Cottrill’s statue, which shows the inventor (from Milan, OH) holding a light bulb, will replace the statue of Gov. William Allen that currently sits in Statuary Hall. Cottrill said he’s honored to be chosen and that even if he wasn’t chosen, he had planned to put the statue in his studio.
The Architect of the Capitol, the Joint Committee on the Library of Congress, and the state still have to approve Cottrill, but it looks like his bright idea is on its way to fruition.
