Big Ten conference gains autonomy

The five biggest conferences in college were granted autonomy Thursday. This means the Big Ten (along with the ACC, SEC, Pac-12, and Big 12) will be able to function with autonomy from many NCAA regulations and the conference will be able to make some of its own rules. The five conferences that were given this provision are the five wealthiest. Most think this new ruling will change stipends for athletes within the Big 10 and other power conferences. These would probably extend many of the limitations on the money given out solely for tuition, room and board, and books. These conferences will turn in a list of things they want to change on their own by Oct. 1.
