bennett-williams-letter-uabjpg-cc99739eaa1d008fBennet Williams, five years-old, loves the Buckeyes. But when he parents were printing out college football logos, it was University of Alabama-Birmingham that caught his eye.

His dad Brad Williams said, “He loved the logo. It’s a dragon. What five year old isn’t going to like it.” Bennet was crushed when he found out that UAB was disbanding the football team because of financial  issues and he wanted to help.

He asked his dad, “well would a dollar help?”. His parents had just given him a dollar for allowance and while he was told that would take about $22 million to bring the team back, Bennet wasn’t deterred.

He insisted that his dad help him write a letter, attach the dollar, and mail it to UAB. The letter reads:

DEAR UAB. I LOVE OHIO STATE, BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE FOOTBALL, TOO. HERE IS ONE DOLLAR TO HELP! – Bennett

His dad also took a photo of Bennet and put it on Twitter, where got noticed by the UAB athletics department. A few days later, Bennet received a box with a Nike football, two t-shirts, a hat, buttons, a bumper sticker, a signed Blazer mascot photo, and a letter telling Bennent he is the number one Ohio fan.

UAB said they are planning to frame the letter and dollar for display in the athletics department.
