New Albany levy isn’t passed, millions must be cut

Issue 3 was shot down for New Albany in the midterm elections and with that, budget cuts over $7 million have to be made to education funds. 55 percent of voters chose to vote against the levy. To make those cuts, 55 teaching positions will be gone by 2015, pay to play sports fees will rise, foreign language classes in elementary schools will be eliminated and for those living within a two mile radius of their school there won’t be busses for them anymore. The district had hoped for the levy which would give it more funds for their growing area.
