Within two years, the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections have lost about 400 correctional officers and that lack of officers has increased violence, escape attempts and suicides in Ohio prisons, Christopher Mabe, OCSEA president said, according to the Dispatch. Some of those escapes have been successful as seen by the three escapees from a Lima, Ohio prison a few weeks ago. Protesters took their argument to Columbus at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s Central Office, asking for more workers. Many times the loss of workers happens because when one officer retires, the position isn’t filled.
