CCS student lights flare on bus, starts fire

UPDATE: A CCS student lit a flare this morning while inside a bus which caused the bus to fill with smoke. The driver pulled over immediately and ushered the students to safety, and the bus was on fire seconds later. Everyone exited the bus safely because of the driver’s actions and the district is focused on the driver that saved the lives of nine children. The student might face disciplinary action, and it is unknown if criminal charges will be made.


A student lit a flare on a school bus Thursday morning and ended up starting a fire that needed firefighters to squelch. The burning school bus was at South Glenwood Avenue and W. Mound Street with nine students, but no one was injured.
