Creationism language axed from Common Core bill

The creationism language that had been on the Common Core bill has been given the boot. The blurb that would have allowed for some teaching of creationism drew enough criticism has been changed, and the newest version says students will “review, in an objective manner, the scientific strengths and weaknesses of existing scientific theories in the standards,” the Dispatch reported. Another change to the updated bill changed the English reading for grades 8-12, and the curriculum would no longer have to consist of 80 percent of British and American authors who were published before to 1970.

Previously August 20, 2014 Could intelligent design be taught in CCS schools? The bill set to repeal Common Core in Columbus City Schools could put intelligent design and creationism on the teaching syllabus for  teachers along with evolution. This is because the new bill must “prohibit political or religious interpretation of scientific facts in favor of another,” according to the Dispatch. The main goal, was to allow for more options for teachers rather than mandating what was taught. Intelligent design is the idea that a high authority is responsible for human life.
