The Minerva Park police chief had quite a few serious feelings on illegal immigrants and the treatment of Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi while he is jailed in Mexico, and she took those feelings to the Minerva Park Police Facebook page, penning a note that sparked backlash within the community. “I am unable to keep silent any longer on the situation involving former U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi! It is troubling that our most powerful government officials can’t or won’t help this young man sitting in a Mexican prison,” Chief Kim Nuesse wrote. She continued on to say that while many illegal immigrants are found in the U.S., they are treated “Fairly with Dignity and Decency.” Her note called for people to join her in calling for the sergeant’s release, but many saw the note as an ignorant view on illegal immigrants.
