Ohio Innocence Project suing CPD

Ohio Innocence Project, a group based out of the University of Cincinnati College of Law, has the Columbus Police Department in its crosshairs. CPD won’t release the investigation records for a closed murder case where the convicted has used his appeals, and Friday an attorney with the group filed papers with the Ohio Supreme Court against the police department. Since 2012, the CPD hasn’t released investigative records with murder trials because of their interpretation of an appellate court ruling that forbids the files be released until the prisoner dies in jail or is released. Ohio Innocence Project does not agree with that interpretation calling it “now-obsolete analysis,” according to the Dispatch.
