The last people you would probably want to be doing drugs can now be subject to random drug tests: Columbus police and fire chiefs. Before higher ranking officers were not tested, and the change is in hopes that those tests won’t be needed (hopefully) and will create an environment of trust. According to the Dispatch, there wasn’t a specific instance that caused the change, but simply to hold all officers and fire chiefs regardless of rank to the exact same standards. That means the anyone from Police Chief Kim Jacobs to the newest rookie officer can be randomly tested.
