Reynoldsburg teachers to be paid for days before strike

Friday, Reynoldsburg teachers didn’t get the pay check for the six days before the work stoppage as they had expected. Now though, the teachers will get a full check Monday, and then smaller payments in the pay periods to come as the pay lost during the strike will be spread through coming paychecks. “Despite good-faith efforts to resolve this issue, the district decided to act unilaterally once again,” Kim Cooper, co-president of the Reynoldsburg Education Association said on their Facebook page Sunday.

Reynoldsburg has barely stepped out of the strike and it seems like there’s already more turmoil in the district. The board approved the agreed on contract and students were given Friday off school so the teachers could move back into their classrooms. The newest hurdle is the union has said the district needs to pay teachers for their first six days of work prior to the strike, and the teachers had expected a partial paycheck Friday which never came. “We feel that’s unnecessary retaliation for going out on strike,” union spokeswoman Kathy Evans said, according to the Dispatch. School district spokeswoman Tricia Moore though has said that the payroll for teachers wasn’t completed while they were on strike and they will receive their pay Oct. 24, the paper reported.

The union though has said if they aren’t paid for those six days by end of business Tuesday, they will fire a wage theft lawsuit.
