Cargolux Airlines International SA, a Luxembourg-based carrier, will have its first direct export to Europe thanks to Rickenbacker International Airport . The carrier has been importing to Columbus from Hong Kong since June 2013, but then sends the half-empty planes on to other US cities to pickup outbound goods. But on Thursday, Cargolux will load cargo onto Boeing 747-8 freighters headed to Luxembourg, before circling back to Hong Kong.
Elaine Roberts, CEO of Columbus Regional Airport said, “This new service from Cargolux is a tremendous opportunity to propel the Columbus region as a global gateway for cargo.”
