New Donatos promises edge-to-edge vibe in the Short North
UPDATE: Details are still pretty scarce on who/what will be part of the new Donatos expansion. But there’s one detail that’ll get Columbus buzzing: craft beer. The pizzeria will debut Black Brick Bar*, a spot that’ll feature a craft beer bar and a space for live music once construction is done. And to feel like it fits in more with the Short North vibe, it will also dedicate a mural space on its south wall. (deb)
*The name is a as a nod to Jim Grote (chain founder) and his desire to build his first pizzeria with black bricks – which’ll also be part of the space’s decor.
Donatos is ready to become part of the fun in the Short North. The pizza shop plans to rebuild their North High Street location with some pretty interesting plans. In addition to doing their own business on site, they will be landlord to two other new establishments at the location. One tenant will be retail, while the other will be a new two-story restaurant, separate from Donatos. They say that they already have that new food joint all lined-up, but they aren’t quite ready to reveal who its going to be just yet. Donatos bigwig Tom Pendrey says “we were looking at what’s happening with the city, the energy and vibrancy in that area and we wanted to invest in that transformation.”
As for the work to put it all together, construction on the new Donatos will begin in June with plans to open in October. (The new shop will be built right next to the current one.) The rest of the development should begin construction in 2016. (jj)
