Blue Jackets name alternate team captains

12109889_10153280091713918_4316506093728381713_oOne day before the club begins play for the 2014 – 2015 NHL season, the Columbus Blue Jackets have identified their team leaders.

In May, All-Star fan favorite Nick Foligno was named the team’s captain. Foligno scored 31 goals last season, his fourth year with the club.

On Thursday, Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky were named as alternate captains.

Jenner is entering his third NHL season…all with the CBJ.

“He’s (Jenner) one of the hardest workers, and we have a lot of those guys in the room, but he’s been a constant. You watch him in games – he’s relentless in how he works and how he goes about his business. He’s done it year in and year out, and he’s to an age now where he’s earned that responsibility and that right.”

– Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards

Dubinsky has also clearly made an impression on the coach:

“I’ll tell you what, he’s (Dubinsky) very passionate and you can see that. Emotion is a big part of him and it makes him who he is, and that makes him a great leader. I’ve talked about the car analogy and talked about what’s under the hood, and those two guys provide a lot of the horsepower for our team. Every day in practice, those two guys are going, and you’re always looking for your leaders to drive.”

The Blue Jackets begin play with the season opener at home Friday night vs the New York Rangers.  (jj)
