Crime Beat: minor leaguer charged with rape

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 8.13.39 AMSaturday, minor league baseball player Emler Reyes was arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping. Reyes, an infielder for the Gwinnett Braves, was in Columbus last weekend for the team’s game against the Clippers. Reyes met two women after the game and the three of them agreed to meet later at an Arena District Bar. The victim told police that after meeting up, Reyes insisted they not drive home – since they had been drinking – and he agreed to put them up in a room at the Crowne Plaza. Once they got to the room, the one woman went to sleep, but the victim says Reyes started making sexual advances towards her. She told him no. Reyes then pinned her to the bed and raped her.

On Tuesday, Reyes appeared in court where his bond was set at $50,000. (deb)
