Screen Shot 2015-08-13 at 4.00.35 PMOpening ceremonies will be held tonight at Columbus Commons for the 2015 Gay Softball World Series.

For the second time in the event’s history, Columbus is serving as host city for the series. (The city previously hosted in 2010.) More than 2,500 players will participate this year…the largest participation ever for the event with 185 teams coming from 43 cities. Games will be held at the Berliner Sports Complex, the nation’s largest softball and baseball complex. Organizers say that activities this week could bring as much as $6 million in visitor spending to the city.

The series will benefit two local charitable groups: AIDS Resource Center Ohio and Kaleidoscope Youth Center

All events will be open to the public including tonight’s opening ceremonies, a charitable benefit Wednesday night at the Hyatt Regency and a closing block party Saturday in the Short North. Saturday’s Short North event will feature R&B group En Vogue. (High Street will be closed from noon to 1am).
