Headed for Texas: NCAA makes move to help players’ families travel to game

Following the Buckeyes’ win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, OSU head coach Urban Meyer insisted that there should be some way for parents and families of the players involved in the Championship Game to be able to make the trip and see their boys play.  Under existing guidelines, each player was granted six tickets for the game and $800 for his family to make the trip.  I don’t know if you’ve priced trips to the Dallas-Fort Worth area lately, but $800 won’t cut it for a family of six.

The NCAA has now granted the College Football Playoffs a waiver to reimburse up to $1250 for each parent / guardian to help cover the cost of travel / hotel / meals.  Similar accommodations will also be made for the families of players who advance to the Final Four of the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments.  (jj)
