Jim Tressel to be honored during Saturday’s Ohio State game
Former Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel will be honored in the Horseshoe on Saturday.
Tressel was announced in June as one of the newest members of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame. Inductees are decided on by a group of the school’s former athletes. The current president of Youngstown State University, who led the Buckeyes to a 2002 national championship, will be recognized during the first half of the OSU’s game vs Northern Illinois.
Current head coach Urban Meyer reflected on Tressel’s time at OSU:
“Coach Tressel ran the premier program, or if not the premier, one of the premier programs in America, and I always admired it.”
– Urban Meyer to the Columbus Dispatch
Tressel coached the Buckeyes from 2001 to 2010. He was pushed out of his post in 2011 during a highly-publicized issue with NCAA violations. Earlier this year, he was named to the College Football Hall of Fame. (jj)
