Maurice Clarett’s day in court

Maurice Clarett’s day in court

Former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett has certainly had bad days in court. Today was not one of those days.

Clarett made a name for himself in Columbus as he helped to lead Ohio State to the 2002 National Championship, but four years later he went to prison on robbery and weapons convictions. A judge had given him a 7 1/2 year sentence. He was released from custody in April of 2010 and put on five years of probation. On Wednesday, Judge David Fais who had granted the former star’s early release called Clarett one of the “truly, truly wonderful success stories I’ve had as a judge.” (Fais is retiring this week after 26 years on the bench.) The judge’s remarks came as he granted Clarett an early release from his parole.

Since his release from jail, Maurice Clarett has spent a good deal of time telling his story…serving as a motivation speaker and releasing an autobiography detailing his rise, fall and bid for redemption.  (jj)
