Plans for Pete Rose resolution go afoul
Ohio lawmakers did to Pete Rose on Tuesday what major league baseball officials did to him 26 years ago…they set him aside. A committee was scheduled to consider the possibility of a resolution urging the MLB commissioner to end the Reds great’s lifetime suspension from the game, thereby making him eligible for the Hall of Fame. But those plans changed after an ESPN report aired this week showing evidence that Rose bet on baseball while an active player….something that he has always denied.
A spokesperson says that the legislature may consider the resolution again at a later time.
Rose accepted a lifetime suspension from the game in 1989 after an investigation concluded that he had bet on baseball while a player and a manager. The possibility of reinstatement has been a topic of conversation ever since.
Earlier this year, the former star began making occasional appearances on FOX Sports as a baseball analyst. For now, the network says that relationship continues.
“FOX Sports has no comment on the recent news pertaining to Pete Rose other than his status as a guest baseball analyst for FOX Sports 1 is unchanged. Pete is next scheduled to appear on America’s Pregame, MLB Whiparound and FOX Sports Live on July 1.”
