baseballnowRespected by millions for his work on the field, loved by many still today…but banned from the game, former Cincinnati Reds star Pete Rose met with Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Thursday. The two discussed Rose’s long-lingering application for reinstatement.

Rose accepted a lifetime ban from the game after an investigation by the league concluded that he had bet on baseball games while managing and playing for the Cincinnati Reds. Eight years later (1997), Rose applied for reinstatement. Five years after that (2002) he met with then-commissioner Bud Selig to talk about the matter. Selig left the office earlier this year without having ruled on Rose’s appeal.

Manfred says that he will make a decision on Rose’s application by the end of 2015.  (jj)
