Teen’s goal to close school on Jan. 13th won’t be sidelined

Columbus is gearing up for Jan. 12, when the Buckeyes take on the Oregon Ducks in the college football national championship game. And one central Ohio teen,  Jack Hendrix (15 years old) know that with the celebration from the inevitable OSU victory, many will be wishing for some next-day reprieve. That’s why he took to change.org and created a petition, calling on Ohio Governor John Kasich to cancel classes on Jan. 13.

In the petition  he says, “Many Ohioan students will watch this game no matter what. Here’s the issue; the game is on a school night. Students will be too tired to learn the next day. I am proposing a statewide school closing on Tuesday, January 13. This will allow students to rest and be ready to engage in classroom activities on Wednesday, January 14. This decision would be widely accepted throughout the state and would make the game much more enjoyable for students to watch.”

Hendrix has said that he’s gotten both positive and negative feedback for the petition. He believes the petition has a strong chance of being seen by Gov. Kasich and being acted on. You can sign the petition over at change.org or follow its progress on Twitter at @CloseSchoolOhio.

Whether or not Hendrix’s petition goes through, at least the teen is thinking right. Columbus already loves to treat Buckeye games as special occasions, so why not make it official?
