Closed: Smashburger restaurants crushed by unpaid taxes

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 2.45.07 PMIt looks like business for one set of fast food hamburger restaurants is (well) done.

The Ohio Department of Taxation stepped in to address issues of unfiled and unpaid taxes with local Smashburger franchise owner Drew Hansen. Hansen’s three Central Ohio locations (Gahanna, Westerville, Lewis Center) have now been closed by the state. Hansen tells Business First that his restaurants weren’t bringing in enough revenue to keep the eateries afloat.

The state says that if Hansen pays what he owes, he can open his doors again. The restaurant owner says that he has no plans to reopen. If those locations do begin serving again, it will be with someone else.  (jj)
