Jeni’s pints returning to store shelves with new look

Jeni’s pints were taken off of store shelves nationwide as part of a voluntary national recall in April of this year. It was a precautionary measure following the discovery of the listeria bacteria in Jeni’s production facility. As the company dealt with the issue, ice cream production resumed (through Smith Dairy), then halted again. Stores closed, reopened, closed and reopened again, but the pints had yet to return to those store shelves. Jeni’s is now giving word that they (the pints) are on their way back.

From a packaging standpoint, customers will certainly notice a difference. The new containers will be made of paper instead of plastic. Jeni’s says that this will allow them more flexibility in terms of package design.  They’ll have the ability to create lower quantities of the paper pints vs the plastic pints for smaller production orders.

In regards to design, product descriptions are now gone from the pints. Instead the size of the ingredient list has been increased.

We pumped up the ingredient list as large as we could fit it in the space because we actually want you to read the ingredients as a reference for what’s inside.

Expect to see the pints return to store shelves and to Jeni’s online store in the new couple of weeks.  (jj)
