*Update* New Keyes for Barley’s Brewing Co.

In brewtastic news: The Columbus Downtown Commission approved plans for the 9,900sqft of the former Keyes Plumbing building to be converted into Barley’s Brewery’s new microbrewery. And while the details of the lease still have to be ironed out, the brewery is looking pretty excited about the new venture.

The brewery will go into the first floor of the building and will feature an exterior (and purely decorative) silo coming out of the roof.* And while the building won’t be open to public yet, Barley’s hopes that it will one day and might look into opening a tasting room on the second or third floor. The one aspect of this new build that I see as a con: filling in the swimming pool that was originally built when the building was planned for residential use.

What would the week be like without some Brew News. In today’s edition: Columbus’ Barley’s Brew Co. is looking into expanding and opening up a new operation station in the former Keyes Plumbing building. The industrial building is up for redevelopment and Barley’s Brew wants to go into the lower level of the two/three-story complex.

Nothing has been finalized, but if the brewery nabs the spot, they’ll be able to introduce a 30-barrel production system (in addition to their restaurant’s 10). Oh, and the new brewery would be a 5 minute walk away from the restaurant. Now that’s a commute I can get behind. (deb)
