Deal for Wendy’s bakery

After announcing plans last month to sell a number of restaurants and the company’s bakery, it looks like Wendy’s has completed one of those goals. Chicago-based East Balt Bakeries has agreed to purchase the hamburger chain’s New Bakery LLC (based in Zanesville). Wendy’s says that they are increasingly using specialty buns (like pretzel buns) with their sandwiches, and those just aren’t produced at New Bakery.  (jj)

Wendy’s is lightening their load. The fast-food company announced plans to sell their Zanesville-based bakery operations and over 600 restaurants to franchisees. The plan is to sell about 380 restaurants this year, plus 100 in Canada, and about 260 in 2016. But don’t worry about your pretzel buns because one, the Zanesville bakery doesn’t provide Wendy’s with its specialty buns and two, they’ll still be partners (so you can get all the regular buns too).
