Another major win for Jack Nicklaus
Golf legend and Upper Arlington native Jack Nicklaus is set to receive the Congressional Gold Medal. House Speaker John Boehner announced on Thursday that the ceremony will be held on March 24th. Along with Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and Ohio Senator’s Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are all expected to attend the event. Portman calls Nicklaus “…a legend, and without a doubt the greatest golfer of all time. Yet in addition to the Golden Bear’s career in golf, he is a dedicated philanthropist who has made a difference in communities across America.”
The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest award that Congress can bestow on a civilian. Nicklaus was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. (jj)
